Important Notice About Nomex Pricing

To Our Valued CrewBoss Customers,

We recently received notification from our fabric suppliers that DuPont Safety has increased the price of their Nomex® fiber by 10% globally for the emergency response market effective April 15th, 2019. Nomex® fiber is a key raw material in FR (Fire-Resistant) fabric that is utilized in the manufacturing of CrewBoss PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) products for the fire service market. As a result of this mid-year increase from DuPont Safety, prices for garments utilizing Nomex® will rise industrywide.

We are doing everything that we can to reduce and delay the effects of this price increase on our distribution partners and end users. Although the increased cost of raw materials have already been applied, we have made the decision to maintain our current price list until June 14th 2019.  This will give you the opportunity to place any additional orders for the season prior to the mandatory increase going into effect on June 15th. Any new orders placed on June 15th, 2019 or after will be processed based on a revised 2019 Price List – Effective June 15th, 2019.

The NFPA 1975 Certification For Firefighter Station/Work Uniforms

There are different types of firefighter uniforms, including standard station wear, dress uniforms, and emergency protective clothing. Each of these different types of uniforms is designed to provide safety and protection from potential hazards while they are on duty.

This article focuses on the standard station/work uniforms for firefighters with a brief discussion on the NFPA 1975 scope.

Station Wear For Firefighters

A fire station uniform is worn by the firefighters and is often intended for daily use. Firefighters are allowed to wear clothing that adheres to specific dress code guidelines to ensure that their attire and uniform are appropriate for their duty. These guidelines are laid out by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

In most states, a law requires that a firefighter be allowed to carry identification and wear a uniform when on duty. Most of these laws are put in place to ensure that firefighters can function as effectively as possible and remain safe while on the job.

The station wear for firefighters ordinarily comes in monochrome pair (commonly black or navy blue) or with a white top uniform. It is used for daytime office operations, but it is also worn as an inner gear in fieldwork.

Certification of Firefighter Station Uniforms

Every fire department in the United States needs a certification of firefighter station uniforms in order to provide uniformity and safety in the workplace and even in emergency zones. 

NFPA 1975 Standard on Station/Work Uniforms For Firefighters

One vital element that firefighter station uniforms can add to personnel safety is the protection it provides the firefighters from possible injuries caused by high temperatures or chemical spills. This uniform allows the firefighters to be comfortable underneath the turnout gear while they are out on site. That is why the certification for firefighter station uniforms is an essential element of a successful fire station that ensures that each firefighter is fully protected when they are on duty.

According to the NFPA 1975 scope, these are the following requirements fire departments must follow:

• The design, performance, testing, and certification of nonprimary protective station/work uniforms and the individual garments comprising station/work uniforms. 

• Thermally stable textiles are used in the construction of station/work uniforms. 

• Flame-resistant textiles are specified or used in the construction of station/work uniforms.

The purpose of the standard station/work uniforms for firefighters is to "establish minimum requirements for thermally stable textiles that will not rapidly deteriorate, melt, shrink, or adhere to the wearer's skin, causing greater, more severe burn injuries."

Moreover, "This standard shall also provide optional flame resistance requirements and tests to verify the flame resistance of textiles where the authority having jurisdiction specifies the use of flame resistance textiles for the construction of station/work uniforms, or where the manufacturer represents station/work uniform textiles as flame resistant."

And lastly, the standard applies to "the manufacture and certification of new station/work uniforms, the individual garments comprising station/work uniforms, and nonprimary protective garments that comprise station/work uniforms."

Summary

Firefighter station uniforms are designed to provide protection, safety, and comfort to officers on duty, whether in the office or the field. They are also required to wear the appropriate protective clothing at all times to remain ready and secure in an untimely crisis. Our brave men may have a special responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for the general public, but their security is the number one priority.

Sizing Your CrewBoss Brush Pants

In order to get the best possible fit in a pair of CrewBoss Brush Pants, there are a few things you'll want to take into consideration. Our pants are not vanity sized like the jeans off the rack from your local department store, and as such require accurate measurements to get the best fit. CrewBoss garments are true-to-size; your waist measurement is the size you should order. 

BEFORE YOU BUY

For the best fit possible, measure your waist approximately where you want the top of your pants to rest, and order that size. Wrap a tape measure around your waist, and measure to the end of the tape. Correspond that number with the sizing chart below, and this is the size you should order. 

Our pants won't shrink significantly in the wash; order the size that you measure. If you prefer a bit of room in your fit, add 1 inch to the measurement you come up with and order that size. 

WHEN THEY ARRIVE

When you receive your CrewBoss pants, try them on as soon as possible. Out of the bag, they should fit exactly how you'd like. If not, proceed to return them. Do not wash them in hopes that they will shrink, and do not remove the tags.

IF THEY DON'T FIT

If you receive your pants and they don't fit for any reason, again, do not wash them. CrewBoss is unable to accept returns directly for products purchased through our distributors. You must return the garment directly to the distributor from who it was purchased. If you purchased your pants directly from the CrewBoss website, contact us to initiate a return.

Lead Times Are Dropping

After months of hard work, we are excited to announce that an additional CrewBoss production facility has come online, and is shipping out thousands of garments each month. This is a game changer. Even as demand for wildland PPE reaches its seasonal peak we will continue to see lead times drop on our most popular products. Orders for Classic Brush Pants are now expected to ship within four to six weeks, well below the current industry average.

Classic Brush Pants are just the beginning. By the end of August production will ramp up on the wildly popular Gen II Pant line, just in time for the height of fire season in California. Shirts, coats, and the Elite Pant will follow.

Pioneer

Pioneer fabric is truly the best of both worlds. Pioneer is the toughest material on the fire-resistant pant market, and does so without sacrificing any breathability. Pioneer's strength comes from the use of Kevlar fibers, and is near-impossible to rip while still maintaining a high level of comfort and breathability

Pioneer's benefits make it one of the most expensive FR fabrics, but those that opt for Pioneer pants do so knowing it'll be the last pant they'll need to buy for some time.

Multi-Mission Rehab Trailer

Firefighters routinely face extreme conditions that threaten their safety and operational effectiveness. Smoke inhalation, heat from direct flames, as well as summer high and winter low temperatures, can all take their toll. The rehab process combats these risk factors by providing an environmentally controlled space that allows firefighters to return their vital signs to normal. CrewBoss Rehab Trailers are designed with a specific set of features to support this mission, and comply with NFPA 1584 requirements for firefighter rehab.

Exterior Features

Almost all of our Rehab Trailers come equipped with awnings as a cost-effective way to add space that is protected from the sun, rain, and snow. Below the awning we mounted a sleek gear rack (the black bar across the side) to hang protective turnouts before beginning the rehab process. Whelen scene and emergency lighting is also available to provide visibility during nighttime calls.

Gas and diesel generators are tried and true, but they also tend to be noisy and produce a notable amount of exhaust. Since part of the rehab requirement is to provide clean air for firefighters we opted for a liquid propane generator. Propane burns much cleaner, and offers the added benefit of easy refueling by simply swapping canisters.

Interior Features

Comfortable seating in a climate controlled space is a must for all rehab systems. Our trailers accomplish this with padded benches that fold up to create more storage space when not in use. On this particular trailer we utilized the most powerful HVAC unit available to ensure that the interior is chilly in the summer, and toasty in the winter. Custom built rollup curtains are used to separate the rehab seating from the rest of the trailer.

This trailer was outfitted with a kitchenette, to provide hot meals for responders in the field. The mini-fridge also allows for cold storage of water and sports drinks, both of which are requirements for the rehab process. In the very front we included a full bathroom, with a shower, sink, and toilet. These features were also necessary to serve this trailer's secondary mission as a search and rescue support system, which brings us to the trailer's final feature.

With a load bearing ramp door in the back, and bed-liner flooring, this trailer was designed to carry a wide variety of ATVs, UTVs, and side by sides to support search and rescue operations.

2017 Fire Season Lead Times

Due to extreme fire activity we are experiencing exceptionally high demand for wildland PPE. It is not uncommon  for lead times to run longer during the peak of wildland season, but this situation is exceptional. Currently new orders are expected to take 8-10 weeks to ship.
